I'm 70 years old, retired, with a lot of free time, but short on free cash for spending. I decided to devote some of that free time to camping and stock photography. I plan to trailer my motorcycle to the campsite and then use it for exploring the backroads in the area. The snow fall does not abate. Throughout the night we get another foot of powder snow but we stay warm. I put dogness in a tent with the boys for body heat and she sleeps well there (this is pre-surgery for Allie). I give an insight to again how cheap gear can fail you at the worst possible moment in the process (Target tent). Also I give a reminder how cotton is usually a poor choice for winter backpacking. With the continuing to fall, it becomes a possibility the other adult leader with his car will get stuck in the canyon or slide off a cliff. As such, we skip the BB gun shoot and elect to bug out. Heavy snow and wind ensues as do the hike down and it's all I can do to get any footage of the event. However conditions overall were IDEAL for this instructive outdoor experience for the boys who were man enough to show up for it (others were too scare to come out). It wasn't exactly fun and never really is when snow backpacking (much work) but it builds self-confidence and if you can stay comfortable out here you can do it anywere. Tamiya Terra Crusher

Significance

Terra Crusher was an attempt from Tamiya aimed at nitro RC truck market, dominated by American trucks such as T-Maxx from Traxxas. The popularity of T-Maxx was overwhelming and it started an off-road monster RC boom. Responding to the popularity of this new segment, other manufacturers such as Tamiya and Team Associated developed of nitro trucks that could compete with T-Maxx. Terra Crusher had all the strong points of T-Maxx, and had to offer more to compete. Terra Crusher thus featured all the major features of T-Maxx, such as big tire 4x4 with two shocks per tire, in 2 speed transmission, as well as reverse gear and on-board starting system. In addition, Terra Crusher was much bigger. T-Maxx weighs 4 kg, Terra Crusher weighs 5.7 kg. Terra Crusher was offered at about the same street price of $ 400. To lower the production cost, Terra Crusher had 2 channel radio set instead of 3; lacking this extra gear meant that reverse was done with a differential gear.

History

Tamiya's first nitro truck, and first nitro vehicle, was TR-15, released in 1994.

TR-15, along with its 0.15 in (2 cm) engine started Tamiya's nitro RC line. TR-15 was a 2 wheel drive stadium truck. RC electric vehicles offered the more popular 4x4 system. Next was Mad Bison, released in 2000. It was simply a 4 wheel drive on-road car with off-road tires; a reduction gear that bulged under the chassis bottomed out easily). Unlike these two predecessors, Terra Crusher was built from scratch, built to take on world's most successful nitro truck at the time. New to Terra Crusher were a double wishbone suspensions with two shocks per tire, differential for reverse gear, on-board starting system, and telescoping universals.

Mechanical design

Terra Crusher's was built to compete with T-Maxx and thus TC's design was sound.

Two extra long shock absorbers were installed on each double wishbone suspension to ensure long soft travel. 2 speed transmission and reverse worked differently from T-Maxx. Differential gears in the center worked as a reverse gear and 2 speed was centrifugal gear change. Two channel radio meant that one throttle servo worked to increase/decrease engine RPM, brakes, reverse gear. This complex throttle design was clever, however a bit difficult to set up.

Design flaw

Mechanical design itself was sound. Wild Commando, TNX both have same design, and they are excellent vehicles. However, 175 mm tires on Terra Crusher proved to be too heavy for 3 cc engine. Each wheel and each tire weighed between 500 and 600 grams. All four would weigh over 2 kg, just as much as one entire on-road car. Another large sized truck from another manufacturer, Team Associated, called Monster GT, has tires with same dimension, but they weigh much less. Simply by installing Monster GT's tires, Terra Crusher's weight problem could be readily remedied, as TNX in recent years have proved. Its 3 cm engine was only slightly bigger than the 2.5 cm engine of T-Maxx; however, that increase was not sufficient to overcome the doubling of the total mass. In addition, exhaust manifold was right-angled. In two-stroke engines of these RC trucks, exhaust has an important function. Explosive exhaust would go to the end of the tuned pipe and bounce back into the combustion chamber. The L-shaped exhaust manifold of Terra Crusher engine hampered the effectiveness of tuned pipe, further weakening the engine's performance.

Immediately after the release of Terra Crusher, it was evident that Terra crusher suffered under the weight of massive 175 mm tires and lack of power from 0.18 in (3 cm) engine.

Tamiya corrected the flaws by simply releasing Wild Commando with smaller and lighter tires only a few months after the release of Terra Crusher.

Legacy

Wild Commando (TGM-02) was released in the fall of 2002, only few months after the release of Terra Crusher. It was completely identical to Terra Crusher, but equipped with much lighter and smaller tires. That alone reduced weight from 5.7 kg to 4.8 kg and improved performance greatly. The same small size tires were sold separately for Terra Crusher. However, smaller 144 mm tires that were better suited for on-road races were not popular for fans of Terra Crusher who wanted a rugged off-road monster truck.

TNX (TGM-03) was released in 2004 proved that Terra Crusher's basic mechanical design was a very sound one. TNX is almost identical to Terra Crusher, aside from a few upgrades, notably stronger O.S designed 1.8 in (3 cm, up from 2.5 cm) glow engine, removal of electronics box and employing much lighter tires. TNX 148mm tires were smaller than Terra Crusher's 176 mm but bigger than Wild Commado's 144 mm tires, going back to the off-road category. Reverse gear in Terra Crusher required delicate-tuning and was abandoned from TNX. Terra Crusher's 5.7 kg (12.5 lb) weight was reduced to 4.4 kg (9.7 lb) in TNX. TNX quickly proved that it is a very capable racing truck by winning numerous races.

TNX 5.2R (TGM-04) is basically same as TNX, but mounts a larger and powerful 5.2 cm engine, instead of a 3 cm engine. Aside from engine upgrade, also a few minor modifications are made to improve upon the performance of TNX. Weight was further reduced to 4.3 kg. Dual shocks were simplified to a single shock, universal shafts were also simplified to dog-bone type universals. On-board starting system was abandoned for handheld starting motor, which saved weight.

Nitrage 5.2 is the most race worthy truck that was released in the summer of 2007. It uses the same 5.2 cm engine, but the truck is redesigned around 5.2 cm engine, geared toward adjustability of many parts for off-road racing. Chassis uses shallow tub construction, removing the necessity for bulky support beams from TNX. This lowers the center of gravity, and makes Nitrage more "race ready." Double wishbone suspension allows adjustment of camber angles. 2 speed transmission is also abandoned. Due to the 5.2 cm engine's ample power, speed change is not necessary. Plastic shock towers of TNX were replaced by aluminum shock towers. Weight has increased slightly to 4.6 kg. Over all, Nitrage has adopted many lessons learned from various races TNX has taken part in.

The future

Nitrage 5.2 is completely newly designed next generation nitro truck from Tamiya. While its design looks similar to Terra Crusher and TNX, upon close inspection, the adjustability added to the new design is reminiscent of 1/8 buggies. Just as Tamiya had jumped into nitro truck market with TR-15 and Mad Bison, Nitrage 5.2 can provide an excellent platform to allow Tamiya into the coveted 1/8 buggy market.

Nova University School Of Social Work

Those who want to have a job in social work will first have to go to a reputable school to earn their certification. Since 1964 Nova University has been an respected educational institution where a wide range of people have come to earn their degrees and certifications in different areas of study, including social work. The main Nova University campus is in Fort Lauderdale and there are a number of programs offered to students who wish to attend this school. Masters degrees are awarded to students after they complete a total of 45 credit hours and a PhD is given to those complete a total of 82 credit hours.

Practical experience is required in the form of clinic hours where the student will have hands-on experience dealing with practical situations. This will represent some of the challenges that students will face upon graduating and getting a job as a social worker.

All clinical practice which students go through at this school is supervised and a certain number of hours are required before they are able to graduate.

If you are interested in going to this school for either a Master’s degree or PhD you will be able to go part time (around six credit hours each semester) or full-time. It is important to understand that by going full-time you will be able to begin your career sooner.

The expenses incurred from going to this school can be quite significant if you are trying to earn a Master’s or PhD degree. The cost of books for each course in this school average around $ 100 and most of them can be purchased from the school bookstore. If you want to get in to Nova University, you will need to fill out an application for the fall semester. A GPA of only 2.5 is required for the master’s program. For the doctorate program a 3.0 is required. It is important to consider everything this school can offer and don\'t forget the beautiful climate of South Florida as a bonus.

Kanji tries to prove himself by running to the girls tents. We try to talk him out of it but he runs anyway. In the girls tent they are not doing great either due to a very big and loud snoring girl. They decide to leave the camp as they can't take it anymore. The girls are now at the guys tent. Jeez this is dangerous! It seems Chie and Yukiko flinch and hesitate a bit when we mention Kanji...siiigh. King moron nearly catches us but seems he is too drunk to notice. Well the girls can't go back now so they are going to have to sleep with us...oh man I always wanted to say that!

Well people, last weekend the 'antique dealers' packed 18000 people into the John Peel Stage tent at Glastonbury. 18000 people that knew every word of almost every song. I hate to say I told you so but.... Well done lads, you deserve it!

Accurate and beautiful images of the last unknown continent. Such was the strength of his work Edward Wilson helped to found the tradition of modern wildlife painting. In particular Wilson captured the essence of the flight and motion of Southern Ocean sea-birds on paper. Returning with Captain Scott aboard 'Terra Nova' (1910-1913) as Chief of Scientific Staff, he continued to record the continent and its wildlife with extraordinary deftness. Chosen to accompany Captain Scott to the South Pole, his last drawings are from one of the most famous epic journeys in exploration history. Along with his scientific work, Wilson's pencil recorded the finding of Roald Amundsen's tent at the South Pole by Captain Scott. Wilson died, along with the other members of the British Pole Party, during the return journey, in March 1912. Many of the images in this book are rarely seen or are previously unpublished. The drawings and paintings were created at considerable personal cost in the freezing conditions in which Wilson worked. He often suffered severely from the cold whilst sketching and also from snow-blindness, or sunburn of the eye. They provide a remarkable testament to one of the great figures of the heroic age of Antarctic exploration.

Coleman Hampton 9 Person Tent Option #1 REVIEW

Be sure and check out my other Tent videos so you see WHY we needed a new tent! In our quest for a new tent, this was our first pick. It's the Coleman Hampton 9 Person Tent. We purchased it on sale from Target for 0.00. They did not have it online to purchase at that price, you had to find and buy it in store. We finally tracked one it down after calling 3 stores, and they held it for me at Customer Service, which was nice. There are Pros & Cons for this tent which I've posted at the end of my video. I don't know all the technical terms for all the features, so forgive me for that. One of the first things you will notice is the hinge door, Coleman developed this new kind of door so that people can enter and exit the tent more easily. This tent also includes its own light which can last for 22 hours on eight batteries.

 

Buffalo Moon Expedition's Review: Eureka Spitfire Tent for Long Riding

This is Buffalo Moon Expedition's Long Rider's Review of the Spitfire Eureka 2, Two Man Tent. For back country horse camping but particularly for long riding solo with one horse across the country. This tent gets my thumbs WAY up as it fits perfectly in trailmax's cantle pocket with room to spare. This tent will hold 2 adults, two saddles, two pack saddles and two sets of panniers and a dog if need be. it would be cozy...but it can handle it. Coming it at a very lightweight 4.3lbs/2.1kilos this is one of the lightest weight tents of this size for it's price. They beat REI hands down on their CampDome2 for room which I have used as well. They even get my vote for BEST TENT as DOME TENTS take a few minutes longer to set up. This takes about 2 minutes and 1 more minute for the fly. Check it out long riders...
