Accurate and beautiful images of the last unknown continent. Such was the strength of his work Edward Wilson helped to found the tradition of modern wildlife painting. In particular Wilson captured the essence of the flight and motion of Southern Ocean sea-birds on paper. Returning with Captain Scott aboard 'Terra Nova' (1910-1913) as Chief of Scientific Staff, he continued to record the continent and its wildlife with extraordinary deftness. Chosen to accompany Captain Scott to the South Pole, his last drawings are from one of the most famous epic journeys in exploration history. Along with his scientific work, Wilson's pencil recorded the finding of Roald Amundsen's tent at the South Pole by Captain Scott. Wilson died, along with the other members of the British Pole Party, during the return journey, in March 1912. Many of the images in this book are rarely seen or are previously unpublished. The drawings and paintings were created at considerable personal cost in the freezing conditions in which Wilson worked. He often suffered severely from the cold whilst sketching and also from snow-blindness, or sunburn of the eye. They provide a remarkable testament to one of the great figures of the heroic age of Antarctic exploration.

Couldn't afford a ticket unfortunately, but I went down to watch from outside and they were absolutely brilliant. As they finished the set 1/2 an hour ago, I suspect this may be the first person to upload any of their set. It includes Dan's mistake when he refers to "the Isle of Wight" but he did at least apologise and correct himself. I could just about see the band through the gap in the tent although you can't really make it out on the video... the main thing you can see is the Security man! The audio is not brilliant - sorry! That's what you get with a mobile phone. Either way - they are one of the best bands around in my opinion (shame I couldn't have got in, but hey that's life!) Video Rating: 5 / 5
Many Irish annals state that Brian was in his 88th year when he fell in the Battle of Clontarf in 1014. If true, this would mean that he was born as early as 926 or 927 The Viking army formed up into five divisions on the field, while Sigtrygg and 1000 of his men remained in town. Sigtrygg's son commanded the extreme left of the line with 1000 of the men from Dublin who decided to fight in the open. Máel Mórda added another 3000 men from Leinster in two divisions. Although numerous, they too were poorly armed in comparison to the Vikings on either side. Sigurd's Orkney Vikings manned the center with 1000 men, and Brodir's Vikings added another 1000 or more on the right, on the beaches. Brian's forces were arranged in a similar fashion. On the right (the Viking left) were 1000 foreign mercenaries and Manx Vikings. Next to them, 1500 clansmen of Connacht were gathered under their kings, while more than 2000 Munster warriors under Brian's son Murchad continued the front, flanked by 1400 Dal Caissans on the extreme left led by Murchad's 15-year-old son, Tordhelbach, and Brian's brother, Cuduiligh. Off to the right and several hundred yards to the rear stood Máel Sechnaill's 1000 men who simply watched. The battle opened with several personal taunts between men in either line, often ending with the two men marching out into the middle of the field to enter personal battle, while the forces on either side cheered.
