Voices from Haiti: Bebe's Wish (English Version)

Learn more: pulitzercenter.org English version of the visual poem Bebe's Wish with poetry by Kwame Dawes, images by Andre Lambertson. When you leave from here, head down Canape Vert to your cooling hotel room, to the breadfruit casserole and barbecue chicken, to the closed in peace of your life, say my name to Bon Dieu, say the name Bebe—he is going to look for me somewhere in Petion Ville in the courtyard of L'ecole de la Republica de Guatemala; behind the low white wall, where a crowd of blue tarpaulin huts, a home like a million homes all over Port-au-Prince—he will find me laughing, singing something by Beyonce or maybe an old hymn I have sung so often while pouring water over my head in the piss-smelling concrete alcove where we get clean; he will see me earning my keep, and from above, all there is to see is the clumsy back of a man hurrying to pour his waiting into me, then the casual slip off, the counting of gourdes, the talk of family, the football score— not tomorrow, maybe Thursday; and he will hear me say something tender, my voice trying to leave him with just enough to look back and see me as a girl, all new, so he will come back, so it is enough to see me as lovely, even when he is confessing to the priest. Bon Dieu will find me greasing my hair, and he will know it is me, Bebe, by my spirit; because it is all I have now. Tell me, before you go, what do you think I am worth, sir? Tell me how much you would pay for me, for just a piece of me to take back ...

Exodus Chapter 33 in English King James Version

Chapter 33 The Lord refuses to go with the people 1 And the Lord said unto Moses, Depart, and go up hence, thou and the people which thou hast brought up out of the land of Egypt, unto the land which I sware unto Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, Unto thy seed will I give it: 2 And I will send an angel before thee; and I will drive out the Canaanite, the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite: 3 Unto a land flowing with milk and honey: for I will not go up in the midst of thee; for thou art a stiffnecked people: lest I consume thee in the way. 4 And when the people heard these evil tidings, they mourned: and no man did put on him his ornaments. 5 For the Lord had said unto Moses, Say unto the children of Israel, Ye are a stiffnecked people: I will come up into the midst of thee in a moment, and consume thee: therefore now put off thy ornaments from thee, that I may know what to do unto thee. 6 And the children of Israel stripped themselves of their ornaments by the mount Horeb. The tabernacle is removed out of the camp 7 And Moses took the tabernacle, and pitched it without the camp, afar off from the camp, and called it the Tabernacle of the congregation. And it came to pass, that every one which sought the Lord went out unto the tabernacle of the congregation, which was without the camp. 8 And it came to pass, when Moses went out unto the tabernacle, that all the people rose up, and stood every man at his tent door, and looked ...

CLAYTOR HAMMOCK ECONOMICAL VERSION 2011

CLAYTOR ECONOMICAL HAMMOCK, the Mosquitohammock.com camping hammock .00, not one to get rough with. Seems to have bit more center pressure to me than the Jungle hammock although I have not played with it very long to adjust for that sweet spot. Fairly nice hammock, not as strong as their Jungle hammock in my opinion but if handled with care and at 2 pounds, it could be used for backpacking with the right rainfly in a snap. No information that I found as to what material actually is. Info from: www.mosquitohammock.com Design: Designed for hot climates. Lightweight, comfortable, this is a good outdoor hammock for backpacking or camping. Easy to use, packs small and dries quickly. Double bottom for inserting a foam pad. Should last 3 years with continuous use. It is a good durable hammock to keep out insects, mosquitoes, no-see-ums, and black flies. This model is popular with boy scouts, church groups and general outdoor camping. You won't find a hammock of this quality for this price anywhere. Guaranteed, or send it back for a refund. Color: Forest Green (with tan inside lining and tan mosquito netting). Stuff Sack: Tan. Dimensions: 250cm long x 125cm wide (8' long x 4' wide) (lying flat on the ground). Many of the scores have been lost, but in recent years CD recordings have been made, reconstructed by Philip Lane from the film soundtracks themselves.
